PHX to NRT with points

I'm planning a trip to Tokyo this Oct/November and I'm trying to figure out the cheapest points route possible in economy. This is what I got-
Amex MRs 61k
AA 53k
SPG 45k

I'll use my AA miles first. I'm leaning more towards using MRs for something one way.

Given the timing, Id worry about finding availability first. Probably two one way Awards, if they can be found.

What availability have you found using your AA miles? For many partners you'll need to call in.

Plenty of availability with miles and the paid cash flights are running $1,400+ on AA with my particular travel dates. I'd rather use MRs but then I'd be using double. 12k SPG transfer vs 30k+ MRs for a separate one way on another carrier.

Your true best bet is doing MR --> Aeroplan. You'll just need to make sure you can snag PHX - LAX/SFO/IAH/ORD and then get on either the UA/NH flights to NRT/HND. Should be either 25k or 27k. Delta should also be at 35k.

Some additional options to consider:
