Help me understand points and partners
Hi there, I've never booked an award flight before and I'm very new to all of this. Can someone help explain to me how to transfer points between airlines to get the most benefit?
My current situation is I'm trying to book a Singapore Airline economy flight operated by Silk Air, 3 tickets (waitlisted). To do so I'd have to transfer Amex MR. Now I know I could transfer 1:1 to Singapore, but I also see that there is an offer right now for MR to transfer with a bonus to Flying Blue. When I checked Flying Blue and Air France, they didn't have any flights to my destination, but I read that they codeshare with some Silk Air flights.
1. Does codesharing mean that I could book a Silk Air flight with Flying Blue points?
2. Is there a better "points currency" I could book with for Singapore considering I'm looking at being waitlisted (I read that Singapore points transfer poorly out of the program), and if so, how do I redeem for a specific Singapore flight? Do I go through Singapore's website, Silk Air's website, or the type of points website?
Thanks

2. You do not intend to book a SQ flight but one on Silk Air (MI). MI on points cant be booked with partner miles, not even with SQ partner airlines within Star Alliance. You will need those SQ miles.
