what kind of plane is this?

I was just reading this article about the A380 and in the second picture down saw this strange black aircraft in the background. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what it is?

I can't figure out how to just post the picture, so here is the article link. Its the black plane-like object in the upper right of the second photo down.

Thanks

It's a flight fire simulator, produced by http://www.simulation.uk.com/our-ser...-airports.html

It's definitely a practical fire simulator, and a thoroughly ugly one to boot.

Similar to the LHR fire simulator, which is green. A weird 747/DC10 combo.

Obviously the only possibility to train all possible scenarios.

(PS: And don't forget that Boeing considered at a certain moment to drop an engine on the 747 and make it a trijet) http://www.boeing-747.com/boeing_747...47-trijet.html

so its just for pilot training? just so the pilots can be doing a flight sim and look out the window and see an engine on fire?

No it's for fire departments to train on. The simulator gets set on fire and fire departments extinguish it.
