JFK-LAX Need some help planning

Hi,

I am planning a last minute trip to LAX from JFK Sept 2-6.

I have the following points/miles

Chase UR: 100,000
Amex: 51,000
AA: 56,000
Delta: 66,000

I hold the Amex Platinum, CSP, Citi Prestige, Delta Gold and AA Platinum.

I would not like to waste all my points on this trip but what recommendations do you have for flying Business class round trip? I don't mind spending a little cash but not $1000 each way!

How safe is buying award upgrade with AA, BA, and Flying Blue using points on a PAID economy fare. How do I do that without screwing it up and ending up stuck in coach on a fare i could have paid less for.

thanks!

What results have you found so far for those dates (on, say, UA/AA/DL to begin with)?

Would be over 100,000 Skypesos, as well as on UA via LGA to a hub, the AA awards had too many stops, cash fairs were all $2000+ RT. Nothing showing for Avios or FlyingBlue for an entire trip.

I just checked AA again, somehow I missed it, but for a solid 50,000 round trip there are many biz class direct flights both ways.

Edit.....No wups, economy....

In that case, I don't know what else we can do for you. It's short notice and at the end of the summer, so I'm not surprised that there is not much available. I'm currently on holiday in Florida but spontaneously decided to take the family up north for a week to visit some friends. No sensible award tickets available, so I ended up paying far more than I should have, but so it is.

Any thoughts about booking through Virgin Atlantic?

$649 for JetBlue Mint on September 2nd (JFK - LAX). Early morning and late night departure. I would take that one way - best product out there and a good price.

What do mean by "booking through" ?
Virgin Atlantic does not fly JFK-LAX

If most airlines are selling the route for $1000 others are not going to sell it for $100. Supply & demand
Have you looked at leaving from another New York area airport?

This.

Don't even think about any other options.

Booking through Virgin Atlantic suggests transferring points to Virgin Atlantic and then redeeming them on one of VS's partners that do fly this route.
