Help with PHX to LIM using AA miles on LAN
Hi All,
Couple of quick questions. I want to take advantage of the the AA 30k biz to LIM. I am sort of new to the miles game and sort of made a mistake, I think. I have a LIM to PHX ticket booked (via DFW) on AA. After I booked I realized this is a crap plane (via Seat Guru), remember I said I was new to this..LOL.
My question is I found availability LIM to LAX on LAN (searching BA) and AA shows availability on AA LAX to PHX. Since the origin and destination are the same can I call AA and request this route, would be WAY better on a new 787.
Also I have not yet booked my flight down to Lima yet so, if i find routing on the BA and AA site for an AA-LAN PHX to LIM flight how can I tell if i can call in and get it for the 30k.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Yes, you can call and change routing and date without a fee as long as origin and destination remain the same (there are other caveats but they won't affect your situation). If the itinerary shows on BA.com it's bookable at the saver rate, though sometimes ba.com doesn't show AA availability when aa.com does. If aa.com has saver availability (the light blue color for business vs the dark blue color), you can combine it with LAN saver seats to book your itinerary.

Just an FYI on the BA.com recommendation.
The engine tends to give phantom space. When Lan First Class is shown as available, this is your indication of phantom space, as LA does not have First, only Business. On very rare occasions, the search will return 7 Biz and 0 First, and all 7 tend to be phantom. I myself didn't believe this one, but 3 different ExPlat agents did not see availability. Overall, space is easy to find come 1 month prior to departure. Enjoy the 787!
