Which airlines? Arrive Qantas depart SFO to New York with Delta
All on one ticket, or two separate tickets? Two Separate Tickets
How many checked bags, if any? 1 checked bag
Class of service on all segments. Economy

That is a tight connection with a high risk of not making it - especially on separate tickets and/or with checked baggage. It can take more than an hour to clear immigration & customs (if non-US), and that is without considering potential delays on the arriving flight, need to check in before it closes for the New York flight, and having to clear security.
If it is not too late I'd be looking to make changes to your itinerary.

Anytime you are transferring between two tickets, I would always allow a solid 3-4 times the MCT. That is especially true here because you cannot check your bag through (although you would still need to pick it up at Customs and drop it with DL).
You also have no protection, meaning that it you do not show up for your DL flight, your ticket will be cancelled and getting it reinstated leaves you at DL's mercy.
