upgrade at check in
I did a search for this on the forum but didnt get anything. I have upgrade to first class before at the airport but do not remember the cost of economy vs first class. I had an economy ticket and upgraded to first class. I think I paid an extra $800 to $1000 for the upgrade, My question is has anyone else ever done this and got a better price because if the seats are available they want to fill them. Next time I will check how much the economy ticket is verses first class and see the difference at check in. I am also aware first class may not always be available. Has any one ever upgraded at the check in counter and got a better deal.

Upgrade
I normally fly UA from ORD to NRT to BKK. I normally only upgrade the longest leg, going or comming and do it at the counter when I get to the gate. The last time I asked to upgrade it was from NRT to ORD. Like I said I can't remember what I paid for the upgrade. For now on when I book economy I will also check the first class fare before I go to see what the price difference is. I was just curious if this practice is used often and what were peoples experiences with it. Not necessarily looking at my individual case but how it worked for other people. Just curious.

Follow this thread (and ones from previous years) for reports of what people are being offered on various UA routes both international and domestic for Y-->J (and the rare double upgrade to F):
