Singapore or KAL (with return date change)

I'm quite new to using points and trying to figure out which would airline would be for my situation.

I currently have 66k in chase rewards. I am willing to sign up for citi to get an additional 40k that could be transferred to Singapore air. I don't think citi can be transferred to Korean Air though, but please correct me if I'm mistaken.

So I'm close to having 2 tickets paid for but I know I'll need to change my return flight since I don't know how long I'll be staying in Korea, at a minimum 6 weeks but I could stay up to 10 weeks. So I plan to book round trip tickets for 12 weeks and change if needed.

We will need 2 adult tickets and 1 child ticket.

Would it be better to do it this route or do one way tickets? I priced out one way and they are almost 2/3rds the cost of a round trip.

Also the time frame that I'll be traveling is during July, peak season. I know KAL has blackouts until June 30th, but I'm not aware of any blackouts for Singapore. These will be economy tickets, the cheapest

Any help would be appreciated. Open to other suggestions like Asiana or transferroing points to a different program.

Thanks!

Route: SFO - ICN and ICN - SFO
Time frame: July-Sept.

Have you done any research with the airlines you are looking at travelling on? Very roughly speaking, you will need 70,000 miles for a return flight, meaning 210,000 for three tickets. You are unfortunately a long way away from that. Even if you did have the miles, you'd need to find seats, which is not assured (and it's late in the game for high season travel). You should probably just buy tickets with cash.

thanks LondonElite for the input.

I've done research on both airlines, and I know for KAL I'll need 70k in points for round trip per person. But it is during high season so it would be harder to come by to book those award seats.

I guess my options will be to book with cash and use the rewards points for another trip.
