Kris flyer Miles

What is the best way to redeem KrisFlyer miles? Singapore airlines appear to charge heavy taxes and surcharges.

Not sure what you mean by "the best way". But the A380 suites are pretty awesome. Yeah, there are a few hundred in fee and charges, but 'tis a small price to pay for that product IMHO

I'm looking for 4 seats in economy. Paying several hundred per seat in economy seems pretty steep.

If you have KF miles and want to redeem KF miles, there's not much you can do to avoid the fees. Redeeming for Y seats is usually bad value.

I don't want to redeem on SQ because of the high surcharges. I would like to know which partner can offer the best redemption when it comes to low taxes and surcharges.

Real taxes, duty's, airport security fees & the like are same for all airlines flying the same route & class of travel. Some surcharges can trigger more taxes. Carrier imposed surcharges (=profit) are not taxes.

When you have SQ miles you have to comply with the SQ ffp t&c's for awards, including all add on costs.

This thread will get moved to the SQ forum. Best place to look

If you have enough miles, I suggest either splitting up between separate flights in J or J and F on the same flight.

Yes the route makes a huge difference - for some routes, the surcharge is quite reasonable. For example it's just $68 for LAX-NRT (in Y/J/F) at the moment.

I also noticed that for LAX-NRT-SIN (in Y/J/F) the surcharge is $277 for the shortest connection time in NRT but you can save over $150 (surcharge is $124) if you choose one of the longer connections in NRT. I'm sure similar things like this exist for other routes.

United - they don't attach surcharges. It's 60k RT in F for mainland US to Hawaii plus $5 taxes/fees
