1st Class redemptions - looking for options.

Hello -

I've accumulated Alaska Airways points and ThankYou points with the intentions of traveling in 1st class on Emirates and Singapore Air. From what I've gathered - I can either do

Singapore Airlines LAX-Tokyo (roughly 75K miles)
Emirates Tokyo ->Dubai-> LA (100K miles)

-or-

Singapore Airline JFK -> Frankfurt (roughly 75K miles)
Emirates Milan -> Dubai -> JFK (100K miles)

I'd really love to do Europe but not too interested in Germany. Would rather be in Italy, but I don't think I have enough miles to get there.

Any suggestions about other routes for the same / similar miles?

Thanks!

have you actually found availability on these routes or are you just dreaming/planning? If the latter, if you actually have specific options, we can be more helpful.

Hi -

I've found availability on these routes, but I'd prefer to look at other options. I think these are the only choices I have though (from U.S. back to U.S. anyway)

Without knowing what dates and what you already looked for, it's hard for us to speculate what routes might be available.

It's also unclear where it is you want to go. If you want to explore Europe, and you want to fly those 2 airlines, your choices are Milan and Frankfurt. You can always buy a cheap ticket from Frankfurt somewhere else. Is the question just what kinds of first class flights you can redeem for? Do you want to get the fanciest flights for the points?

Do you experience with business & first class on long haul international with non USA airlines?
They are not like first in USA domestic airlines.

That's what I was thinking. Yes, I'd prefer to fly in F but I wasn't sure if there were any other options besides. Milan -> JFK (via Dubai) is my option for Emerates but it's not available on Singapore I don't believe, JFL -> Milan that is.

Thanks!

Yes, I've done CX a few times in F - I'm well aware it's nothing like domestic metal - which is why I want to try these other 2.

Without knowing what airport you're starting from, where you really want to go, and your points balances in each program it's tough to give good suggestions.

I would not recommend to waste your points on SQ F between JFK-FRA. I would fly LAX-NRT on SQ. A much nicer/longer experience.

And you will be able to drink up to 8 bottles of Dom on LAX-NRT.

Yeah, that's what I was debating. I did want to get to Europe though with a few trips to Asia already. But it comes down to the journey vs. the destination.

So save your miles and book a perfectly acceptable business class trip to Europe?

Ack, I haven't paid for a trip in years. I suppose you'd have to add that into the challenge (award travel+desirable destination+great F or J experience+Alaska Miles+CitiThankYou points) = Emerites/Singapore combo.

Do LAX-DXB-MXP. Assuming there is availability, it's 100k in Emirates F with Alaska miles. Or LAX-SEA-DXB-MXP. LAX to SEA on Alaska, SEA-DXB-MXP on Emirates.
