Help with programs and flights Rome - NYC - HNL
Hi,
I have a trip planned for early June going one way from Rome to NYC and then NYC to HNL one week later.
This is what I have to work with:
55k British Avios
70k United miles
70k Chase UR points
Looking at cash flights, I found $250 for Air Berlin, Rome to NYC with 1 connection - which seems unbeatable. And then $520 for a direct flight from NY to HNL. So the value seems a lot better for using miles on the NY-HNL flight - however, the best I saw for that was 45k UA miles.
I heard it's possible to do layovers with UA award redemptions, is that right? Is it possible for me to get decent value on economy/business/first award redemption from Rome to NY to HNL?
Or are there any transfer partners with Chase for the NY-HNL flight? I was used to paying 17,500 with AA, but have few AA miles left now. 45k for a domestic economy reward with UA seems pretty bad in comparison.
Any help/tips/thoughts on how to plan this would be appreciated. I'm actually starting in Dubai before Rome, if it's possible to do 2 layovers along the way to HNL.

There are no free stopovers on UA's one-way awards, only on their roundtrip awards.
If you can find SAAver award seats on AA/AS nonstops from JFK/EWR to LAX/PHX/SAN/SEA/SFO, and from there to HNL, then you can get that redemption for 25,000 BA Avios (12,500 per flight), with or without a stopover on the West Coast. AA award flights can be booked directly on ba.com; AS award flights require a call to BAEC.
You can search aa.com for SAAver award seats on both AA and AS; if you find the seats you need, you can then book them via BA.

If you're eventually going to go from HNL to NYC (and Delta decides they want to play nice...) then you could get a roundtrip on KE for 25,000 UR. Out of curiosity I took a quick sweep of the United website too (since they have a nonstop EWR-HNL) and saver availability doesn't look good on any route for all but the first couple days of June.
