Hi there,

First post hope this is the right place!

Got a slightly strange layover in Dubai and wanted some advice, arriving 11pm on the 26th Dec, departing 28th at 2.45AM.

Thinking best strategy is to get a hotel on arrival then try for a late checkout, then try and get lounge access for the evening of 27/28 either by paying or through a CC (maybe amex plat).

Questions are mainly, is this the best/most comfortable way to spend time up until the antisocial flight? What's the best way to get lounge access? (paying, enrolling in a CC card, or something else, considered upgrading thatleg of the flight but because it is a codeshare BA/Quantas/Emirates don't think that is possible?)

Also thinking about Raffles, rooms at about 220. If anyone has anything to say on that, or another nice place to spend the night and most of the day I'd appreciate it.

Welcome to FT!

One thing to consider is where you'll be flying to and maybe forcing your body into that time zone during your Dubai stay. That would dictate when you sleep during the 27th. Personally, I'd get a beach hotel and snooze by the sea for a while, have a late dinner, and get to the airport for about 1am. If you have Priority Pass through your credit card, you could use their lounges in Terminals 1, 2, or 3, but I wouldn't pay for them.

I agree with your approach. Get a hotel for the night and try to negotiate a late check-out. There is plenty of lounges in Dubai airport with both complementary access with certain cc's (visa signature, hsbc premier customer etc) and paid access.
