cancelling cards
Is there buzzwords to use or a simple process?
i have not tried closing a CC account in years but remember it was a hassle.

I think it's gotten somewhat simpler, with some cc-issuing companies offering less resistance than they used to if you cancel by phone. But in my experience the easiest way is to send in a private message if your card is registered with Chase or Citi or perhaps other banks online. I vaguely recall that at Amex you can't pm at all any more, but might be wrong about that.

I always send a letter.
That has the added benefit of keeping a record in my computer of the date the card was canceled, which is helpful in deciding when to reapply for a subsequent bonus.

I have cancelled all of mine online - I go to the message center most card companies have on your account page and just type in please canx my Mastercard ending in XXXX immediately (I would be on the account page for that card when I do this) - and I get a message back in a day or so saying it's been done. Did that with BOA, Barclays, Chase and Citi so far.

As this is specifically a credit card related question rather than an award program topic, the thread is now closed.
Please search through FT's dedicated Credit Card Programs forum for previously similar discussions, and post any additional related queries there.
Thanks all.
