Is Sri Lankan 9K plus only $24 after you click through to the next screen? The ba.com website does not show carrier-imposed surcharges on the initial pricing screen.

The RFS charge includes all taxes, fees, and surcharges.

I've never been to CMB, so cannot comment on its value as a stopover.
Did what you said. 9K + $60; only $5 difference, but I think I'll go with whatever time favors our itinerary. Thanks again.

Following up on a post upthread, the OP could use BA Avios for MLE-CMB (9,000 Avios for two in Coach, 18,000 Avios in Business), and then redeem 110,000 AA miles for two Business Class awards CMB-LAX.

Not sure what the BAEC surcharges will be on MLE-CMB. And the OP would need to build in plenty of connecting time (maybe even an overnight) in CMB to guard against a mis-connect due to IRROPS.
Couldn't find award flights from CMB-LAX on aa.com. Am I supposed to go to a different partner site or call? How would I put the flight segments together if aa.com won't show?

Next leg would be MNL - SIN - MLE with SQ -J, it will cost 60K SQ miles transfer from UR/MR

from MLE you can come back with EY-J MLE-AUH-LAX, it will cost 135K AA miles, you are short on AA, you can either top off or transfer SPG

You can also do these in reverse.

Good luck! I would not recommend using any of your miles for Y seats
Saw your LAX-NRT-SIN-MNL flight plan on SQs site, and it's 60k KF + $757. I looked on United.com, and saw an LAX/SNA-SFO-ICN-MNL for 80k UA + $29.40. Is it safe to say that the latter is a far better choice even if there is a 20k point difference (yet a huge $ difference)? Is there anything better than what I just found?

Call AA, since aa.com won't show CX/JL award flights.

LAX-NRT-SIN-MNL flight plan on SQs site for 60k KF + $757 or LAX/SNA-SFO-ICN-MNL for 80k UA + $29.40 on United? Is it safe to say that the latter is a far better choice even if there is a 20k point difference (yet a huge $ difference)? Is there anything better than what I just found?

The UA option is much better if you have the points. That is about it.

Yah, I just pulled the trigger earlier this afternoon. Found out that my MP just got replenished with 30k+ points from a purchase I made on MP Shopping with Sears for 12/$1!

Working on the MNL-MLE, and I was looking at your post of doing SQ MNL-SIN-MLE for 37k & $350+. If I do this, I'm going to use MR, so I don't use up the UR that I'm going to need for PHM for 6 days. Are there any other alts for the MNL-MLE route?

Really having a hard time on my MLE-LAX segment. How much should E/Y price out for MLE-AUH-LAX or CMB-x-LAX? with AA miles? I called AA and they priced the former for 45k pax and the latter for 35k pax. Plus, there's a $35 charge pax. Is this correct? I'm looking for something to work on the 16th or 17th of Feb. Please help!

The mileage quotes are correct. And there is a telephone-ticketing fee when you do not book an AAdvantage award at aa.com.

Great, thanks! Found MLE-CMB to arrive at 22:40 on the 17th and booked this segment through ba.com. Also, found CMB-AUH-LAX on EY to depart at 04:35 on the 18th for 29 hrs total or CMB-BKK-HKG-LAX on CX/AA to depart 02:25 on the 18th for 21 hrs total. I am steering towards the latter itinerary, but I am afraid of any possible delays or issues from MLE-CLE, getting baggages, going through security, etc. From everyone's experience, is it ok to have about 4 hours leeway with CX/AA or just take the EY itinerary to be safe? TIA

Isn't AAdvantage pricing that as two awards, CMB-AUH, and AUH-LAX? The purpose of flying to CMB in the first place is two take advantage of the lower cost of an Asia 2-North America award, which does not permit a Middle East transit.

I actually only found the flight plan on ITA, but I recall that when I asked about CMB-LAX they said 35K pax. Let me find out to make sure, but do you think the CX itinerary has enough cushion if EY itinerary ends up counting as two awards?

CMB-LAX is only 35K AA miles one way in Coach, but the only third-zone transit AA permits on an Asia 2-North America award is Asia 1.

Personally, I would want an overnight in CMB if traveling on separate award tickets. If your MLE-CMB flight is delayed or canceled due to weather, sick passenger, mechanical problem, etc., are you prepared to pony up the cash for same-day, walk-up tickets from CMB to LAX?

By the way, I called to finally set each segment and price everything out. Unfortunately, none of my scenarios were "qualified" for award tickets, at least that's what the agent said. So, the agent found me for the 18th at 07:20 CMB-KUL-HKG(overnight)-LAX to arrive 06:50 on the 19th for 35k AA pax and $176.70. She said that she was actually surprised that she was able to find anything since she checked JL, CX, EY, AA, and other partners. What do you think? Should I look at other alliances or stick to this?
