Best way to get stopovers
I am interested in going to Manila next month and want to do a stopover in Hong Kong. What's the best way to book an inexpensive stopover without using award miles? Is it relatively easy to search online to do this?

All airline sites, OTAs and kayak/googleflights/matrix offer multi city searches.

Just do a multi-city search on one (or more) of the travel websites. Airlines do publish airfares that don't price out much differently with stopovers at hub cities like HKG.
You can also search for a round trip ticket to HKG and a separate round trip ticket from Hong Kong to Manila. You might find doing the last leg on an asian carrier on a separate ticket... may be cheaper and get you your stopover. Lots of travel sites won't price that out cheaply even if you do multi-city.

Since your question is of a general nature and not specific to United, I'm going to move it to our Information Desk forum. Thanks to the members who've given answers so far.

Just calculate all this possibilities, using the OTA's and their multi-city functions...
