Krisflyer Audit
I just received this email from Singapore Airlines:
During our random audit check we noticed that your accruals were made
differently from the name sequence in your KrisFlyer (KF) Name Profile.
We would like to highlight that your KF Name Profile sequence is as
follows:
Family Name: taken out for anonymity*
Given Name:
However, we noticed your recent transfer of mileage accrual transactions
were accrued under name as shown below:
Family Name:
Given Name:
Date of Transaction: this fall*
Non-Air Partner: American Express USA
Number of KrisFlyer Miles: over 100k*
The accruals were flagged out as "Name Mismatch" against your KF Profile
Name. .
Pooling of miles is strictly prohibited under the KrisFlyer Membership
Programme. In the event above KrisFlyer miles do belong to you, please
provide us the copy of your bank statement to support the claim and send
it to our email address [email protected] or via
facsimile +65 6789 8777 but if not belong to you, Singapore Airlines
reserves the right to remove ineligible miles from your account.
The ineligible equivalent bank points will be returned to the original
credit cardholder and to facilitate the return of the miles back to the
bank, we would request for the MR numbers of all the persons who had
transferred their miles to your KrisFlyer account.
If you have any queries on this please do not hesitate to call or e-mail
us.
I don't know how to handle this. I didn't know that you couldn't share miles with a spouse. I used a mile/trip booking service and he advised me to ignore this email. Said he's never had this happen and never had any clients audited with kris flyer.
How should I proceed? Get my husband to add me as an authorized user to his amex plat. for the $175 or whatever it is and send a copy of my name on the account (in the hopes it doesn't show join date)? Ignore? Email back explaining we are a married couple it's a family trip and basically plead ignorance?

Personally I would just pay the $175. Will be worth more than the hassle and time spent trying to plead your case/points taking ages to be refunded/availability on SQ lost etc. Add yourself to his account and then send a copy of the account explaining that it is a joint account and hence why his name may have shown up.
I would not listen to the mile/trip booking service guy. Yes it is extremely rare for anything to pop up on an audit which is why he/she hasn't seen it before but the fact that they have sent you a personalised email evidently means this is an issue that cannot be ignored.

While I'm not familiar with Singapore policies specifically, with most airline programs and credit cards, the credit card accrue and belong to the primary card holder. If the airline prohibits sharing or pooling, the fact that you are an authorized card holder won't be enough to allow the transfer from his Amex account to your KrisFlyer account.
This part suggests they will just undo the transaction and the points will be returned to your husband's Amex account. If so, that may be the best possible outcome, with nothing lost. But - a big but - I'm not sure I trust them completely, and I'm not sure the transfer is reversible. (Aside, what are you using the miles for? Could your husband open his own Krisflyer account, transfer the miles there, and use them to issue a ticket for you?)
You may need more expert advice than the Info Desk forum; I'd suggest asking a moderator to move this to the Krisflyer (or Amex?) forum, where folks may have more experience.

I wasn't sure where to post this initially, so please move as necessary.
We used all of our points to buy four business class seats to Asia for next summer. My husband and I and two children. I really don't want to lose the seats and I'm trying to figure out the best way to keep the reservation as is. Our kids are young and we don't want to be on separate flights.

This sounds like your award booking service advised you to do the transfer. To me, this would make it partly their responsibility in that they should have checked the rules before telling you to do the transfer, especially if you could have transferred to husband's FF account and used "his" miles for at least some of the tickets. However, it also sounds like your award booking service might not be real good, so I'd be a bit reluctant to trust them to figure out how to solve the problem.
I'd start by finding and carefully reading exactly what the rules are for AmEx to SQ transfers. If you can transfer within the family, give SQ evidence of your relation and the problem should be solved. Otherwise, check the rules on primary versus secondary cardholders, etc.
