Unhappy Flight date changes: Any tips?

I have a flight from San Fran - Victoria (Alaskan airlines) with a return Vancouver - San Fran (Air Canada). I was scheduled to return on the 26 but want to shift to the 30 and apparently it costs 300.00 dollars to do that. Anyone have any tips how to get around that or atleast reduce that cost?
Thanks

Pay the $$$. Or look for another flight to buy costing less than $300 and no show on the booked return.

If you're talking about November, there's a United flight YYJ-SFO on the 30th for $218, which would be cheaper than paying to change your existing ticket.
