Points or Cash for flight?

As this will be my first flight redemption I would love some feedback on using or saving my 110k AA miles. This isn't an AA specific thread, just a points vs cash question.

Our cash price trip is $704 via Allegiant or would cost 70k AA miles from FAT-HNL. I put a value of the miles at $477.69 ($27.65 VR fees, $250 annual fee, $200.04 Lost 2% cash back on $10k)

I didn't learn about the "don't earn them until you need them" rule, so I don't have any other immediate plans for the miles.

Do you value flying AA over Allegiant? What about the schedule?

Does that cash price on Allegiant include all the fees you'd incur? Also, when are you going?

The allegiant flight is direct, but would have to be in June or July only. AA could go anytime. The price I listed includes all fees for allegiant (except bag fees). In a perfect world we'd go in the fall than the summer.

Also, is that 2 people or just 1? For dates in September, I get $608 per ticket on United as lowest cash price I found.

Assuming that's 2 tickets for 70k, I get 1.7cpm which isn't terrible. I'd use the miles. If that's only 1 ticket...that's another story.

Wirelessly posted (beckoa's BB: Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9810; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.11+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.1.0.694 Mobile Safari/534.11+)

I'd avoid G4. They've had reliability issues to Hawaii, and in the case of irregular ops, AA has several options a day to get you home. That being said, off peak you can get to Europe for 5K miles more per person

Also consider flying/driving to the Bay Area for a paid ticket- sometimes AS has a good deal to the islands.
