No, this is the "information desk" forum (where a wide range of topics are acceptable), but I agree that the "other" airline forums are the best places to discuss airlines that aren't sufficiently popular (on FT) to warrant their own forums.

1) nyc and bos are probably best located given countries you will be travelling to
2) major airport hubs will be most convenient for your travels (otherwise have to add a domestic leg), but COL and taxes will also be higher
3) i wont say florida has nice weather, temps can get quite high and it's humid
4) i have heard plenty of nightmare stories about driving to lax airport. also when i visited LA, traffic was a disaster

For sure I never thought about AA, but you can't beat 12k miles and eleven bucks, LOL.

So I finally was approved for my vacay, and I am now actively looking for a carrier to fly on. I'm so glad you mentioned Cathay Pacific as they show up a lot on Google Flights as very reasonably priced across the Pacific.

I'll spend this weekend looking at all three carriers instead of just two. I appreciate you both contributing to the boards here. :)

Hello all- this looks to be the exact thread I am looking for after several days/weeks of trying to figure things out for myself. It used to be BA but my home airport has now moved from London to Lisbon

1. What is most important to you in a frequent flyer program (FFP)?
upgrades, priority services, baggage allowance, good award redemption rates, better award access, lounge access, etc.

For the asian trips it looks like almost all of these would be via Turkish Airlines however they don't fly from Lisbon to London so I wouldn't realistically be able to redeem these as easily. I could become a TAP frequent flyer and collect the turkish miles on their program?

5. Which routes do you fly most often?

>>> Bronze with BA, used to be Silver. I have about 400,000 avios and this is predominantly used to book last minute reward flights in any class within Europe. However my home airport is moving from London to Lisbon so I won't be able to use BA as much and their recent loyalty program changes haven't helped

you might want to look at aeroplan. ac and tk are both from star alliance. you can redeem award flights with lufthansa, swiss and tap. you should be able to use your existing avios for flights to london.

The basic premise of frequent flyer alliances is that you can fly a partner airline, getting status benefits, and collect ff miles/points/avios and status earning in another airline ffp. Subject the t&c's. Earnings can vary.

Within the next 5 years, we'll have a new paradigm (the train is already in motion).

I am trying to find an alternative for BAEC. I just reached BA silver and only 500 less to gold, but due to the program change, I would need to find an alternative.

>>> SAS, rj or AY. Most of my asian flights are in skyteam, my other flights are flexible and can be with any alliance. I would think OW alliance is better cuz all my flights are in biz and it already covers the lounge and other priority access. Rj status looks easy to emerald but the points seems not easy to use. SAS platinum is also a good choice but it does not give me any significant extra benefits.

>>> Reply: Aegean Gold qualified for 2025 but it required going to Greece every year and doesn't give upgrades on long haul flights from US-Europe. Especially after SAS leaving Star Alliance, a good prem eco option went away.

With less than 8 flights and less than 25000 miles a year airline frequent flyer programs are not for you.
With 300,000 points from QF points club doing OK from that frequent spender program. Won't get that with a non AU loyality program.
Mediumn~long haul business awards can be hard to get with many ffp's. More ffp's are going from (lowish cost) award charts to dynamic pricing (like QF classsic plus),
Airlines are printing gazilllions of ff miles/avios/points for frequent spenders.
Fewer aircraft-routes-airline have international first class.
