green alert button

I know about the function of the green alert button and see it on a few posts.
But why is the botton green on all my posts?
I am not very new.
Does ones own posts always show a green button?
I have been curious for a long time and am beginning to feel that I am on probation.
Assuming that this forum is the best choice for this quite non- travel related question.

Our Technical Support and Feedback Forum is specifically for this type of technical questions/threads.

BTW, when the "green light" is on, it says you've logged in and are on FT for the time being. When one logs out, the light turns red. Nothing punitive is attached to the "green/red status light."

Actually, green means the poster is logged on and active on FT; gray means that poster is logged off. Red means you're logged on but have set yourself as "invisible," and thus other members will see you as gray even when you're logged on and actively browsing/posting on FlyerTalk. You'll never see anyone else with red light; you'll only ever see yourself with a red light, and that's only if you've turned yourself invisible.

You can set whether you want to remain visible or invisible in the Edit Options menu.

If you hover your mouse cursor over the icons, they'll tell you what they mean.

You are correct about the "green light" but I don't think your explanation of the "red light" is correct. The "red light" means you are logged in in invisible mode. When you log out the "light" turns greyish blue.

Ooops! I've been beaten to it by jackal.

Thank you to both of you.
Having now searched the link provided and read your answers, I now understand that I have mistakenly linked the two icons ( circle and alert sign). Thought that the alert triangel triggered the green light. All is clear now,

My bad. I've been "invisible" for too long to forget about the "gray shade" between red and green.

I didn't want to bring up the "invisible" part to confuse OP even further, but my deliberate omission had made things less clear. Thanks to jackal, now we have all the colors nicely matched and set things straight. ^

Not necessarily the wrong forum. While the Technical Support and Feedback forum linked above has been the usual home for questions like this, this particular forum (the Information Desk) is the place for questions about how to use FlyerTalk itself. We're still trying to figure out exactly what this forum is supposed to look like, so it's all good.

Well, your red "invisible" light is watching you like HAL. Maybe it is. Really.

Cool

This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it, jackal.

Well, early bird catches the worm - better luck next time I get paranoid about lights or icons.

I can see that you have been having fun while I have been sleeping.....
I have been sleeping well knowing that I am not especially targeted for monitoring. And I don't have a red light to give me nightmares....
