I am new to flyertalk and if this question is best addressed somewhere else please let me know.

Though I have been traveling quite often ( In a year about 4 flights between India and US and about 3 flights between India and Eastern Europe ) I have been not very good at using Miles program effectively. I have used miles program from Lufthansa /Air France /Qatar.

I usually fly economy class and the miles rewarded on most of these are rather poor. Sometimes 25% or best case 50%. I was looking at United and they seem to be awarding 100% of the miles for all the economy fares as well and am tempted to start using the United MP program going forward. This time I want to pick one and try to stick to that for the rest of the time.

I would love some advice on what is the right way for me to go forward with this.

I am based out of India, but that is bound to change to the US in a few months time. Goal of acquiring miles is primarily for the status. Though I do hope I could use it for award travel primarily in the america's and europe.
