iPhone in India? Unlocked?

Hi All,

Does anyone know if iPhones available for sale in India through VodaFone-Essar and Airtel are locked to the respective networks? Given the networks are charging an upfront cost and not subsidizing the cost of the handset (as is the case in Australia, and few other countries) I would assume the phones will be unlocked. Can anyone confirm whether they are network locked or not?

Cheers, SQ421

(Note to Mods: This might not be the most appropriate forum (as opposed to Travel Tech) for this tread but I gather its close enough - similar to the Qantas Freq Flyer thread - which at times plays hosts to Australia specific discussions that are not exactly Qantas related. Feel free to move this thread at your discretion. Cheers)

I think it would be more helpful to specify as to where they purchased these...such as if they were obtained from Vodaphone/Airtel India, and if not, from where, and if they were "jailbroken"...

I just googled, and came up with this - hope it helps someone!: http://wisetechie.com/blog/2007/09/1...unlock-iphone/
