Accomodation in Puri

I have searched, but haven't found anything on Puri. Any information about accomodation in Puri? How many days should one plan to be in and around Puri? How are the beaches?

Puri is a mess... the town is crowded and the main beach littered with 'morning soil' from the pilgrims. If you want to do a beach holiday in Orissa, Gopalpur-on-Sea is a much better option.

Thanks for giving me heads up. My brother head visted Puri many years ago and had fond memories of it. Where is Gopalpur? What else is there? Any ideas about accomodation?

Gopalpur on Sea used to be a seaport set up to import rice from Burma which was then shipped away into the hinterland using the NH5 Calcutta -Madras Highway and the Madras-Calcutta Rail line using the Berhampur Rail station. Bhubaneshwar is 180 KM away. Chilka lake is only 45 KM away.

Oberoi used to have beautiful property there called Oberoi Palm Beach. We had quite a few holidays there about 12-15 years ago. The hotel is still there, but no longer a Oberoi property since 2004/2005. OTDC has hotel listing of Ganjam district here:

Swosti seems to be OK...

Chandrabhaga beach is fantastic (or was a couple of years ago), though I don't know what accommodation is like in Konark. I'm pretty sure there's nowhere to stay near the beach.
