The US Consulates/Embassies just take the money of Indians without regards to whether it will be missed or not when they deny them visas on more ridiculous grounds, even when the persons have no history of overstaying in the US or violating the rules of their prior visas in the US.

Oh I know. I have heard some horror stories. I must admit now though, that it is easier to get visa in India now than it used to be.

A number of years ago, one of my friends from India, but a U.S. citizen died in FL. His brother, who was stationed in Indonesia, working for a Hongkong based company, was to come and take his body home to India. He made his way to Jakarta to apply for a visa. He was told to go to Bombay as his emplyoyer's letterhead had Hong Kong address. He flew to Hong Kong, where the U.S. embassy told him that he would have to apply for a visa in India as he was an Indian citizen. Off to Bombay. In Bombay, he was told to apply from Kolkota (Calcutta) as his address was in Orissa, which fell under Kolkota's jurisdiction.

My 10 year India business visa only cost $155. I consider that quite reasonable. Prior 6 month India business visa was $85... also not too bad.
