Dining in Bangalore?

I am Bangalore for 1 week on business, staying at the Taj Gateway...since it is my first time to India I am having a hard time finding a good restaurant(unfortunately I am not really a fan of Indian cuisine) Any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe one of the restaurants at the top hotels(Oberoi, Leela palace, west end)..Am I on the right track?

I just got back from Bangalore on a biz trip as well. I would highly suggest Sunny's. Not sure what road its on (since most of the streets have no name), but its pretty popular. The food is continental but surprisingly really, really good. I too couldn't eat any more India food, literally. I only had 1 meal in 4 days from the food in Mumbai. Make sure you save room for dessert, all the desserts there are great. I had the veg. risotto which was delish and a few people order the glazed ham which looked really good. Most items in the menu are ~250-400 rupees.

I was staying at the Leela Palace and was not impressed with the food. Avg. meals were ~900-1000 rup. and it was not as good as Sunnys. I will say that about 90% of the people that were eating there were there on biz from the states or various parts of western europe.

Hope this helps, I wish someone told me about this place instead of the granola I ate everyday.

You can always go down to M.G. Road and get something to eat/drink somewhere there.

But I haven't found anything that I consider especially spectacular, so I do most of my dining at the hotels when there.

I second another poster's suggestion of Sunny's. I remembered the place but couldn't recall the name last night. If i recall right, its in a cul-de-sac off lavelle road. It should be behind St Mark's Cathedaral at the beginning of MG Road. Someone local to Bangalore or who's been there more recently can confirm.

At least, that's where they used to be 6-7 years ago.

Try shiok - http://www.shiokfood.com

It serves excellent thai / malay / singaporean cuisine (and if anybody has been around SIN, they know what shiok means)

I am quite late to reply to this post but I hope I can help future travelers to Bangalore. I travel there frequently on business from NYC, and most of the time I dine alone. Most of the hotels have great restaurants and it is usually quite "safe" to grab a bite there alone. There are also some restaurants located in the newest malls. Here are a few addresses:
Hypnos --Gem Plaza, 66 Infantry Road (Mediterranean)
100 Feet Boutique Restaurant -- 777/I, HAL 2nd Stage, 100 Ft Road, Indiranagar (Mediterranean)
Aromas of China -- Eva Mall, Level 5, 60, Brigade Road (Chinese)
Dakshin -- 25, Windsor Square, Golf Course Road (Indian)
Le Jardin -- 37-39, Mahatma Gandhi Road (South Indian)
Mynt -- Race Course Road (Continental and open 24/7)
Via Milano -- 80 Feet Road, 4th Block, Koramangala (Italian)

Hopefully that will help.
