One last question...

Does anyone have any positive recommendations for a hotel near the Delhi airport? I arrive from EWR around 8:10p and depart for Cochin around 9:30a the next morning, so I would prefer to avoid a 40 minute cab ride in both directions. Also, the Deli Hilton curiously advises against using taxi cabs. Is this yet another scheme to boost revenue, or should I be genuinely concerned about leaping into a cab? I understand that when arriving, I should pay at a designated counter first, before entering the cab.

Try the Airport Radisson which is reasonably close

The Radisson has airport pickup and drop off service included in the hotel rate. They are convenient for an overnight stay and are within 10-15 minutes of the domestic and international terminals.

wordlwidedreamer, the Hilton "Delhi" is the Trident Hilton Gurgaon, a bit closer than New Delhi but with lots of freeway construction on the Delhi - Jaipur highway (National Highway 8.)

The Radisson is OK, they have a shuttle service to / from DEL, and is ten minutes away (though a chicane at the airport drive entry can back traffic up into the roundabout and slow things down a bit.) Context: I was there less than a week ago.
