Unhappy custom duty 100%

I ordered a phone from China to India which costed me 216$. The product is a rip phone of Samsung galaxy S4

Today, I received a call from post-office saying that your product is arrived and you will have to pay Rs. 13,000 (218$) as custom duty/Tax.

I cant pay that much amount as tax. Please help me what should I do?

Regards,
Gaurang

The Customs Act clearly states that customs is free to assess the value of the good being imported by post:
http://www.eximguru.com/exim/indian-...ostal_imports:

Did the chinese sender attach a CN22 declaration on the outside? Did it include a CN23 when the item clearly exceeded 2000 INR?

Fake/pirated items are usually banned from import, you are probably lucky they didn't confiscate it...

You could appeal to customs about their decision, but I doubt you can repeal the duty rate. There are some contact numbers here:
http://www.indiapost.gov.in/Customs_Information.aspx (download the pdf and check page 335).

You can get those chinese copies of the iphone, S4 etc in any gray market store in the country so I wonder why you had to ship it all the way from China.

+1...
and also i would say cheaper than USD 216 from what i see in bkk.. here its USD 100 for the best quality replica so even adding a 75% markup would make it not more than 175usd in india..
