Scotch to MAA
I am planning on bring about 3 liters of scotc in my checked luggage into Chennai and possibly buying a few bottles at duty free in Dubai.
Can I expect any problems at immigration, and if so will it just be a question of paying some duty?

You can purchase Scotch on arrival at MAA airport before clearing customs and immigration. The brands available at the airport are usually the ones popular in India.
