Alienware M 18x query

Hello everyone. I am Siddharth from Gurgaon and was just googling into the solutions wherein I could probably get my laptop from the states. Well to share with you I bought this laptop in march and it's been lying idle there since then. My close relative was planning a trip to india then but the trip has been delayed due to some unforeseen circumstances. So my pappy is stuck up there with no sight of it arriving in the distant future. So I wanted some expert opinions as to how to get it to india. Kindly suggest.

First is that I plan a trip to the states for a week
Or 10 days and get it myself. Appx cost of the trip would be 1.2lacs

Second is that I get it couriered and pay the custom duties on it. Don't know how much would it be. Any ideas anyone. ? And how safe is the process and which courier to be used?

The laptops MRP is 3000usd. Its in Troy. Any help is appreciated.

Wirelessly posted (Samsung Galaxy S: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.6; en-us; SGH-T959V Build/GINGERBREAD) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

You know both viable options. In many airports, they ask you if amything you are carrying has been given to you by another person. A personal laptop can ne imported duty free. I doubt anyone would be willing to lie to security aithorities of an airport on their way to India or to Indian customs.

Lastly, the purpose of this forum is not what your post intends to solicit.

Welcome to a FlyerTalk.
A trip to the U.S. can be done for $1500 or less.
Your relative can courier it or ship it and you can pick it up after payment of duty levied. There is no other solution.

welcome to ft sid87....

planning a trip to the states just to get a laptop seems like a very foolish idea....

it you get the laptop courier by a reputed company then it will be very safe....you could also get it insured....not sure about the duty part....i read somewhere that it was 35% but i could be wrong....

What are the specs on your Alienware. My son just ordered a 17 inch MSI gaming laptop for less than half the price. I am wondering what it has more of. Currently, xotic is pricing its base configuration for over $2000 with less RAM than the MSI. The MSI has the same CPU (core i7 3610 QM) and GPU (nVidia GTX 660M with 2GB DDR5 video RAM) as the Alienware base configuration and a smaller HD.

Did you get a better CPU?
I don't know about the cost of shipping it. A vendor such as xotic would be able to tell you shipping costs for various shipping options.
