CCU-MAA

How should I do this trip...

1) IndiGo Y (not sure what to expect) - but dirt cheap (110 USD r/t ai)
2) 9W Y - ~300 USD r/t ai
3) 9W Y - 24k JP miles + 12.00 USD taxes

Ideas? Or maybe something else?

Indigo is one of the best LCC's in India, and my friend prefers them.

You can buy the EE seats for Rs. 100/- extra each way, and get extra legroom.

Downsides: No miles (not that many anyways) + no lounge access. (really doesn't matter that much domestically, as you can go to the restaurant/s, which are lounges as well, and pay for food/drink)

9W has much cheaper advance purchase fares, but you won't find them on foreign booking sites.

There's also IC/AI, which is now a better airline than it used to be.

Another option is Paramount which has 2 daily flights on CCU-MAA.

I'd second this. Paramount is one of my favourite airlines out of Chennai.

Yes Paramount, a BLR-based airline, also operating ex-MAA, is worthy of a try in the smaller Embraers. It's quite nice, with a "business"-class (back of cabin, very decent), and a First Class up front!

Must be better to fly Paramount on a longer segment like this...I'm always flying shorter segments with them...

Um, actually Paramount is MAA based and is hubbed there. So am I. But yes, it's roomier-ish and decent first product. Full service airline and you get 30kg luggage allowance. I like the Embraers...

Thanks for the correction. I was informed years ago that they were ex-BLR, but obviously that information was wrong!

Paramount also has decent timings ex CCU (end of day)..and supposedly has an on time performance of 84% or the like - however recent sightings in chennai airport (and recent experience with them on MAA-HYD) is that they are unreliable and cancel/delay loads of flights...but then the 84% on time performance is govt data (dunno if they excluded cancelled flights though)

With 5 E170/175 they are obviously a startup:

Let them grow a bit before I give them my business.

Well, I use them for the enhanced luxury as well as jet aircraft versus turboprops on certain routes! ^

I have been flying them since 2006 when they had 2 aircraft. I like them as they provide (well, as well as a startup could - with occasional hiccups) good service and have grown slowly. They are full service and much better than the ATRs on the short hops in Tamil Nad, Karnataka, Kerala and Andra P routes. I have had 9W ATRs cancel on me when the Paramounts flew during cases of inclement weather.
