IT joins oneworld global explorer

So you can include IT flights in Oneworld RTWs / book Oneworld RTW using IT ticket stock. They're also including S7 (the russian domestic airline) apparently

Indian domestic network offered by round-the-world fare for first time with Kingfisher Airlines joining oneworld's Global Explorer

Mumbai, May 29, 2009A domestic network in India is to be offered by a round-the-world fare for the first time with India's market-leading airline Kingfisher Airlines participating from Monday (1 June) in Global Explorer, which offers flights on all members of the oneworld alliance and some selected other airlines.

Global Explorer already includes a number of airlines with no other oneworld links - Aer Lingus, Air Pacific, Alaska Airlines and its Horizon Airlines sister, and Gulf Air. Flights carrying the Qantas code but operated by Air Tahiti Nui, Jetstar, South African Airways and Vietnam Airlines are included too.

The fare also covers all routes offered by oneworld's existing member airlines - American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malv Hungarian Airlines, Qantas and Royal Jordanian and some 20 affiliated carriers, including LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador, LAN Peru, China's Dragonair and South Africa's Comair. Mexicana and its affiliate MexicanaClick also participate, ahead of joining oneworld later in 2009.

These airlines serve five points in India - but the addition of Kingfisher Airlines' Indian domestic network expands that to a further 62 gateways across the country.

With the addition of Kingfisher Airlines and S7 Airlines from Monday, Global Explorer now covers flights serving a total of more than 850 destinations in some 150 countries offered by more than 20 airlines and some 20 affiliates.

So unfortunately for IT does not goes for SkyTeam alliance. So sorry to be my disappointment the news came in today. Maybe there is another time for which airlines will be chosen to joins into the alliance. I knows it might to have look for another carrier who will joins into Skyteam.

I am sorry, but for those of us who are slow to understand - does joining the global explorer mean that Kingfisher is joining the One World Alliance? For those of you who are a bit more knowledgeable about the intricacies of airline alliances please do share your wisdom.

Not really, it just gives the Oneworld alliance more coverage when selling round-the-world/explorer fares tickets. They're happy for airlines outside of Oneworld to take part as it gives them destinations they might not serve themselves, and therefore makes their "explorer" packages more attractive.

Just look at the list of other carriers that are part of it. Aer Lingus (formerly Oneworld, now totally out of all alliances), Gulf Air (never show much interest in alliances) and Alaska (plays with members of all 3 alliances without much favour) all take part. Being part of the explorer tickets doesn't signify much, really.
