Unusual concept. I'll reserve my judgement on it till we have real experiences of using this posted.

I wonder if you'll get F credit, but don't know how that works with IT, and if it's even worth it for the additional credit...I know that the seat might be worth it, but one never knows...

I'd do it just for the seats... it is coming out to be quite cheap for me! Right now I'm jetting about India on a business trip, and if I wasn't in KF F already, I'd definitely be using this deal! I have one sector on 20.5.2009 where I am in Economy right now, so I'll use this and let you guys know what happens.

it really works

I participated in the program for DEL-BOM flight and to my surprise I really got an upgrade. I was just charged RS. 2400 for this. More than that the customer care people at Optiontown (who are really offering this service) was really great they helped me a lot to walk through the program and also guided me through the process of registering :).

Let us know if you get F credit - what did your BP state?

Welcome to FT, btw! :)

I successfully upgraded a Kingfisher flight from HYD > DEL today that leaves tomorrow. I had tried last week with no success, it had said my flight was not upgradable "at this time" so I tried again on a whim.

-According to the TOS, the upgrade is seat only, i.e. no extra miles, baggage allowance, etc.
-I initially chose optiontown's India site as I am in India, but then it would not accept my US-issued credit card. I redid it on the US site with no problem.
-The upgrade cost $57 USD.
-Time between request and confirmation of upgrade was 4 1/2 hours; I cleared about 27 hours before the flight.

Interesting - unlike any other airline's cash upgrades...

So was there any price differential between the Indian and US site?

Also, how much in advance can one do this, I'm wondering... (not that I think I would be flying IT anytime soon!)

According to my quick in-my-head calculation, the INR/USD rates were the same.

quick question regarding the upgrades:

Do they tickets have to be bought directly from Kingfisher (i.e. from the website, ticket desk etc) to be eligable for upgrade or

can they be bought from travel agents like Southall Travel, Travelpack, expedia etc etc

The upgrade offer for the long haul flights seems great value!

thanks!

I purchased from a travel agent and then used optiontown to upgrade this week DEL-CCU one way for $63! Amazing deal and no problem at all when i checked in at the counter, asked if it had cleared and was handed two F boarding passes and escorted to the plane...fly the friendly skies indeed...

THANKS FT, i would never have known about this if i didnt read it here!

For each passenger or for both pax?

Savage25 Jul 11, 2009 2:52 am

Just booked a one-way BOM-GOI at Christmas time in economy for £50. First is selling for £205. Logged into optiontown and was offered the upgrade for a £2 nonrefundable fee and £50 for the upgrade if available. I don't really think its a good deal for such a short flight as I get lounge access and priority checkin anyway with my NW Gold.
