mumbai flights dropped

I am reading that both VIRGIN and FINNAIR are dropping Mumbai.
Wonder if it is the down turn in the economy or competition from JET/others?

What has this to do with Airliners of India? Both the above are already discussed in their respective forums.

It's Airlines of India, btw...

Jet is indeed mentioned below, and due to this, I think the post is warranted, at least imo...

(I'm interested to note *less* competition ex-BOM, which is not good! :td:)

Less competition is definitely not good on this route! Whilst I always fly BA on the BOM-LHR route, VS' presence was useful to make sure that fares were low-ish, at last on both the UK carriers (I always found 9W to be more expensive on this route than both BA and VS, until recently). And if for some reason I fell out with BA, it was nice to know that I had two alternatives - from May there'll only be one :(

Sorry if I missed it before, but since AI is starting the FRA scissors hub, when are they (if they are) planning to end LHR-BOM services?

geoman244 Mar 10, 2009 9:42 am

Correction, I'm seeing AI keeping their flights for the time being within Sabre (doubt they'd give up the slot).

Kind of interesting to see 3 Indian carriers and only 1 British one on that route :)

It's agree with the OP and Superflyboy that this thread has everything to do with Airlines of India.

Bad news for BOM flyers. I guess this is probably due to the downturn in economy.

out of all the non stop options: BA, 9W, IT, VS, AI.

AI and VS had the worst reputation in terms of service (aircraft type, IFE, crew attitude etc etc)

AI had the 747, 767 options and VS had a A343. I travelled on the A343 and boy it was long and boring, old seats, little piddly IFE screen (not the AVOD version in the A346!), crew thought they were something special as they were indians working for Virgin!

AI have now introduced the 77W.

VS had one daily and with old equipment yet the fare was almost identical to what BA and 9W were charging who both have 2x daily options and in my opinion much much better service.

Im glad they are gone!

I would not worry about fares rising or anything just yet, there are still an umpteen amount of carriers who offer LON-BOM fares!

I had the same experience as you, although mine was on a BA flight.

What is it that makes them feel that they are extra special? :td:

Colonial mentality that some Indians inherited from the British.
