9W: transit in mumbai

i'm flying jet airways from the US to india, landing in Mumbai but final destination is hyderabad. I have a 9 hr layover in mumbai before the Hyd flight on Jet.

1. Once I arrive, can I check in the luggage to Jet domestic & get a boarding pass after I take the luggage from my international flight, pass thro the customs, etc.?
2. Once I check my luggage in, I'd like to exit the airport to go into the city, and come back in time for the domestic flight. is there an issue with exiting?

thanks.

You can check your luggage with 9W the moment you are thru customs. They offer an interterminal bus, but you can walk out the terminal, enjoy BOM and go to the domestic terminal if you like. You just have to be in the domestic terminal about 60mins before departure.

Code:

We are pleased to offer check-in facility for passengers arriving at International Terminals 2A & 2C* in Mumbai (Chhatrapati Shivaji International Terminal, Sahar).

For your immediate reference, please find below the process of check-in and transfer to the domestic airport in detail

Through Checked in passengers:

Passengers who have been through checked in by our Through Check-in partner airlines (Northwest, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, British Airways, Emirates, Gulf Air, Cathay Pacific, Swiss International, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Qantas and Qatar Airways, United Airlines, SN Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa) and given through boarding passes with baggage tagged to final domestic destination(s) will complete their immigration and custom formalities. Passengers are then requested to proceed to screen their checked in baggage at our check-in counter located at international terminal 2A. Passengers will hand over their baggage to 9W staff for onward transfer to the domestic Terminal 1B. The international airline boarding passes would not be exchanged. Passengers will then proceed to board the Inter-terminal coach for transfer to the domestic terminal 1B.

Non-through checked in passengers:
Passengers holding confirmed onward booking on Jet Airways flights but have not been through checked in, can check-in at the international terminal 2A or 2C* after completing their immigration and custom formalities. Passengers need to screen their baggage at the check-in counter and will be issued their domestic boarding passes as well as baggage tags for their final destination on Jet Airways flights. Our staff will take over the baggage and passengers will then proceed to board the Inter-terminal coach for transfer to the domestic terminal 1B.

On arrival at the domestic terminal 1B, passengers are requested to go through the Transit Passenger Channel in the Arrival Hall, which brings them into the CISF Security Screening Area. From this point passengers will go through CISF security screening together with local joining passengers prior to entering the Security Hold Area.

Please note check-in at these international terminals closes 60 minutes prior to scheduled departure time of the flight(s). Check-in at international terminals is ONLY for flights departing the same day.

Currently this facility is available between 2230 hours to 1000 hours daily at terminal 2A and between 2230 hours to 0700 hours daily at terminal 2C*.

Ticketing facility is also available at both terminals.

The procedures of Through Check-in from domestic to international airlines still remain the same as mentioned above.

To view the exact location of the Check-in counters at Mumbai international terminals 2A & 2C*, please click here

*Please note: Since the Mumbai Airport is currently undergoing renovation, Terminal 2C will not be available for check-in facilities.

Have you checked if you can make an earlier flight? You can take both S2 (JetLite) and Jet flights on a Jet ticket.

What if it's a Jet flight the whole way?

My parents on are on the EWR-BRU-Delhi-KTM and back flight. I assume
bags won't need to be touched?

Also, are there any lounges in the transit area (no visa for India, US passport) that we can pay to enter?

My experience is that there really isn't a "transit area", and that the terminals are quite a distance apart. I think all bags have to be claimed and the rechecked. BOM is quite a hassle really.

I think one should get a transit visa to be safe.

You can transit DEL without issues. Jet will check you thru and on landing you have to follow the 'international transit' signs to get back into the departure area without having to clear immigration. Make sure to get hold of some gate agent on deplaning so that your luggage gets taken care of.

Search the Travel & Dining >> India forum for details/reports on how to do a intl-intl transfer in DEL.

JetAir - Bad experience in Mumbai Transfer

Recently, my mom was to travel to newark , US via Mumbai from Bangalore. Later realized that the Jetairways transfer in Mumbai was from Domestic Airport to International airport . If I had known this I would have preferred some direct same airport airline, because my mom was travelling for first time in air and did not speak english or hindi.

I was told that in Mumbai domestic airport, (In middle of night) there were no Jetair personal to properly guide her to their transfer shuttle. The terminus was changed and no info or assistance was given. It was just 2.5 hr layover and finally reached international airport with so much tension and confusion only becuause some gentleman was kind enough to understand my moms predicament and help her out.

Initially I had heard Jetair ways has good service and as it had a new direct service from bangalore to ewr and booked the flight. The lesson for me was :
1. Not to book via Jet Air
2. Not to book in an airline where there are multiple airport transfers

I am sure others probably have had better experience, in my case I was judging jets service where language barrier and old age combination is among their customers.
Regards

Kingfisher - International to Domestic Transfers?

We are arriving into BOM (International) on a Gulf Air flight at 6:30am and flying out of Domestic at 10am on Kingfisher Red.

Two questions:
1. Is 3.5 hours enough time for this transfer (clear customs/immigration, grab our bags, head to domestic, check-in etc)?

2. Does Kingfisher provide International to Domestic transfers?

The answer to your first question is that you will have enough time. BOM international and domestic are essentially two different airports in the same city. You will need to do immigration, claim bags and customs and then recheck your bags to Kingfisher. You can take the international to Domestic transfer bus ~20 minute ride. I suggest that you contact Kingfisher to confirm that there will be a Kingfisher transfer desk after international customs clearance. (I flew NW to Jet, but I think it is just next to the Jet tx desk). Just be aware that some of the porters in the airport will try to handle your luggage without asking you... then "insist" upon payment for doing that...

Thank you for the very quick response. As you suggested, I will contact Kingfisher to confirm.

There is no IT transfer desk in the intl terminal. Only IC/AI and 9W. You can take your luggage with you on the bus that shuttles airside between the terminals. IT is the second stop on the tour.
