Question about luggage checked through

Hello folks,
I apologize in advance as I know this question had been discussed multiple times but I wanted to hear any updated opinion (if any).

I am scheduled to fly from a round trip from NY to BKK on Air India/ (F/J), connecting in DEL. I am booked on a SINGLE PNR, transiting through terminal 3. On the way back, I am scheduled to fly Thai in J and AI in F, on a single PNR as well.

As far as I understand, my luggage should be checked all the way through. However calling AI (and Thai for that matter) is like puling teeth - impossible to get any reliable information.....

Does anyone have any experience with that?

Many thanks.

No issues whatsoever luggage will be checked thru. In DEL you need to report to the transfer desk and get your boarding pass endorsed with a DT by an AI agent. Then use the transit security and go the lounge/gate.

Oliver - thank you. The reason for my concern is no knowing if I need a visa to transit through India. If I am checked in (together with the luggage) all the way through to my final destination, then I am all good, but if I have to pick up the luggage and re-check in, then I DO need a visa....

AI will do intl-intl transfers without issue. No visa required.

Thank you, Oliver. What about TG, connecting to AI (BKK-DEL-JFK), same PNR of course.

To further muddy up the waters....This is a Twitter reply, just came through...."Passengers are required to collect their bags from the international arrival belt and get them rechecked in for their connecting flights. You may reach out to any of our ground team for assistance."

This is for I-D transfers.

Both ways its the same. India is ok with intl-intl transfers, unlike the US.

This would apply if you were on different PNRs. Even then it is possible to transit without a visa. In your situation you will go from the transit area to the international departure area internally & don't need to worry about a visa or re-checking in your bags.

This may have changed now because India has placed Thailand on the red list of countries that now require pre-departure testing and COVID test upload. TG may require you to have conducted this before boarding you in Bangkok.
