Unable to select seats

Unable to select seats on Delhi - EWR Air India flight.

I am able to see the seat map and vacant seats available to be picked online on their website, but it keeps erroring out with some weird message "Field flightSegments.recordLocator is mandatory."

I called their 800 number and the agent also could see the seats available that I was seeing online but could not assign them. He then made up an excuse and said I would be able to do it at the time of check in at the AI counter, which is not very helpful :-)

Any advise?

Depending on how keen you are for those seats you could call up the agents again. Sometimes a different agent is able to reserve those seats.

Thank you folks. I called in a few more times and "think" they were able to assign the requested seats. We will only know for sure at check in.

I asked them to put my United Mileage Plus as the frequent flyer number and they put in "Air India" in the frequent flyer program field, and my United Mileage Plus number in the frequent flyer number field.

I am thankful for my years of growing up in India that I am able to laugh at myself while calling them. I will try my luck again at the check in counter and "hopefully" they can update to reflect my United Mileage Plus number for the mileage accrual. Any advise is welcome.

Non AI FFPs need to be updated at check-in.
