AI baggage

I am flying DEL-HKG-TPE on a single ticket (economy class), with the DEL-HKG on AI and HKG-TPE on BR.

I have a separate TPE-SFO ticket on UA that leaves a few days after I arrive in TPE.

As a Star Alliance Gold member, will I only be allowed 40kg total of checked bags when I check in at DEL? If I show them my onward TPE-SFO ticket, will they give me the AI USA allowance of 3 bags 23kg each (as a *A gold)?

No, they wouldn't allow that on a separate ticket. You'd be given 40 kgs allowance only.

they 'might' have done that if you were not stopping in tpe for a few days....but in this scenario they are bound to refuse....
