Redemption suggestions needed

Hey Guys

I am planning a US trip in May with my wife. Trying to redeem Jet and other miles for a ticket and below is a brief summary

Going: Mum-LAX (24th May)
Return: JFK - Mum (7th June)

For the return leg, I have already been able to redeem Jet miles for a ticket on Etihad (could not find business so had to take economy). Now the dilema is on the ongoing journey from Mum - LAX

I have the following miles:

300k Jet
180k PM (which can be transfered to Delta, SQ)
200k AI

AI and Jet don't have much availability as such. Jet has a flight on partner airlines but not to LAX which means I will need to buy a ticket from NYC - LAX seperate.

Here is the main thing:

Korean air flies directly to LAX in a 20 hour flight (which works out best from a time perspective). Korean is a Delta partner but somehow I am not able to see its award availability since I do not have access to Korean airlines given my lack on miles on that airline or access to an Expertflyer

Air India also does not have any award flights as such to LAX

What do you think could be the best options for me to redeem miles for this onward journey of Mum - LAX?

Thanks much for your help.

Parag

You don't need miles to check availability on the Korean Air website, but I don't see that being useful to you because you can't book a one-way award with Delta miles (yes, I checked... the year is 2014 and this is still not a feature).

However, can't you use PM to transfer to BA/CX? CX/JL is available BOM-HKG-NRT-LAX starting the night of May 23.

Good luck

I can use PM to transfer to them. The award wasnt available on CX but can check on expertflyer to verify again. Thanks - that is helpful

SQ saver awards not available and rest are too expensive to redeem and hence did not make sense

Check if you can use jet miles on american airways. If yes, then with the merger of US Airways and AA you should be able to find more options. I think AA has a flight from Delhi/mumbai to JFK and am sure there are connecting flights from JFK to LAX on AA/US Airways.

You can check reward availability on expertflyer.com.

try looking at two legs in BA:

bom-hkg and hkg-lax... you may need to call them to book it as a single ticket

Keeping in mind CitiPM, 9W's JP Miles & AI's FR Miles, here are your options, besides the non-applicable 1-way Delta partners:

21h 5m+ Jet Airways, Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong (Usage of Jet + PM)
21h 40m+ Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong
23h 15m+ Lufthansa via Frankfurt (PM on SQ / TG Partner)
23h 35m+ Turkish via Istanbul (PM on SQ / TG Partner)
1d 0h+ British Airways via London
1d 0h+ Thai via Bangkok, Seoul
1d 1h+ United via New York (PM on SQ / TG Partner)
1d 1h+ Singapore Airlines via Singapore, Tokyo
1d 2h+ Jet Airways, British Airways via London (Usage of Jet + PM)
1d 2h+ Jet Airways, EVA Air via Bangkok, Taipei City (Usage of Jet + PM)
1d 2h+ Air India, Air New Zealand via London (Usage of AI + PM on SQ / TG Partner)

Good Luck with the availability..! ^

Thanks a lot. This is quite interesting and quite a lot of options that I need to start working on. Have already started on a few but some of them I had no idea of.

Thanks again

You can also use AI FR miles on Lufthansa or Singapore Airlines as partners.

AA/US do not fly to either DEL / MUM.For that matter, they do not have service to any city in india...AA took off ORD-DEL service a couple of years ago.

AA has a code share with BA.. so I dunno if you can book a flight on AA Codeshare, using Jet miles..

I personally refrain from making a booking on 3rd party websites / OTA's and book directly with the airline, so as to hold them entirely responsible for any lapse / IrrOps.

JP Miles to be redeemed for a AA codeshare on a BA operated flight => a receipe for disaster.
You are bound to make it very easy for one of those 3 airlines to blame the other 2.

None-the-less, Good Luck..! ^
