Air Austral at MAA?

Pardon me if this was a common knowledge.

I found that Air Austral (Airline of French territories of Indian Ocean) flies to Chennai (from Reunion, and extends to BKK).

They are doing twice weekly runs on RUN-MAA-BKK and return.

Now MAA has 3 direct connections to BKK (TG, FD and UU).. Fantastic! Return fares between MAA-BKK are in the range of Rs.17K in Y on Air Austral, which operates a B737-800.

Sadly BLR has only TG, and SG pulled their service as fast as they introduced it.

With of course additional nickel and diming for food, blankets, headphones etc. It is a wonder they don't ask you to pay to use the toilet like ryanair does.

I didn't know such an airline existed or that it would even fly to MAA rather than say BOM or DEL. Thanks for the post.

One of the airlines in that region used to fly to some places in India including BLR.

Chennai is just up the road from the former French Indian colony of Pondicherry.... So this flight has an historical precedent in the Galleons that sailed from France, via Reunion to India a LONG time ago!

Reunion also has a large Tamil community who were brought in as cheap labour after the slaves were freed to work the on Reunionais Plantations.
