BOM - AMS via Miles

Hi,

What do you think on getting the best deal for BOM - AMS return for flight date between Feb. 9 - 13, 2014.

Have close to 50k miles on citi premiere miles and around 70k on jet.

Any tips on how I can use these miles to get a good flight?

Thanks!

Welcome to FT!

There's an option of converting PM to DL in 1:1 ratio and then using those on DL49:BOM-AMS & DL50: AMS-BOM. That redemption would need about 70k miles + taxes.

or you can book BOM-BRU-BOM on your JP miles, and take the train from brussels to Amsterdam, which is something I frequently do.

quite a bit....a lot of times it works out better to buy a revenue ticket & then use the miles to try & upgrade to business class....

Plus you earn miles on the base economy fare if you go this upgrade route.

exactly....the only problem is that it is next to impossible to get upgrade availability....atleast with vouchers you can upgrade at the airport....you can't do that with miles....

I have had friends who have scored upgrades at the airport with miles.

If you see business class mile redemption availability on a flight you can call JP and upgrade your economy seat using miles instantly.

I've done this twice and it works perfectly.

Thanks for all the options.. This is what I have done - Transferred 50K PM to Avios, and booked Bom - AMS - Bom on RJ. Total cost: 50K Avios + 98$. Thanks deepakmv!

I liked the Bom - Bru - Bom route on Jet too with an upgrade option based on availability.

this doesn't usually work....even it there is business class redemption available they don't allow you to upgrade....they say 'd' class has to be available in order to do this & 'd' class is generally not available....

Anish is correct. "D" class is also used for pure miles redemptions in business class. If that is available, then the same seat can be used for upgrade redemptions. I have also done this multiple times.
