The tier point thing would probably be good for someone who misses out on the status upgrade/retention due to one or two tier points being short..
for someone like me who travels less, but travels India US, the tier point doesn't work.. need miles that count towards tier.. wish they had something like that..
personally to me, the biggest benefit I see in holding a silver or above status is the extra luggage.. I make the most use of that for sure..
