AI CMD gets cracking

An interesting piece, seems like the new CMD wants to make serious efforts to bring a change, just hope that it works:

Very good in theory, but considering that he has supposedly been told that he is not allowed to cut AI's bloated payroll it is hard to see how much he is going to be able to achieve with his hands effectively tied in relation to one of AI's biggest problems.

Reminds me of jumping into the sea with your hands chained to an anvil.

Arguably thats what AI's biggest problem was during the late 90s and early 2000s. Too many people were forced into "early retirement" and then brought back as "consultants" on "contract". For a long time, there wasn't any 747 captain actually employed by Air India. They were all forced to "retire" to trim headcount in order to meet some externally imposed metric and then hired back at higher cost.

Never underestimate Indian bureaucracy's way of screwing up even the most well meaning of ideas.

I can vouch for that.

My uncle has officially retired from NACIL (ex Indian Airlines) with all the perks and pension but amazingly he got a 2 year fixed term contract to fly about 2 weeks later as they are short of pilots!

Let's hope the CMD can pick up where V. Thulasidas left off and we can forget the Arvind Jadhav days that almost killed Air India - unless it's already too late.
