not much you can do with 5k miles....you could redeem for one of the shorter sectors though....your flying date can be upto one year after the day the miles expire but you must redeem before they expire....

OR IF you know someone that has a 9W account, you can transfer them for a fee, giving them a 12 month lease on life...

Jet airways was running a promotion on MAA-CMB for 4000 miles a while back. Not sure if this is still on. You can take one way in Jet and catch a return in a LCC (I heard Spicejet is good) - also there are many other choices - Mithun Lanka, AirIndiaExpress etc

I just looked it up and they offer connecting flight to Maldives via CMB from my home town.. Yay... .^
