If you don't have an indian visa how do you expect to get into the city and check into a hotel, even if 9W offers you one?

I suggest you get a visa if you have intentions of finding a hotel.
The transit areas in Indian airports have very minimal facilities and not a place to stay 8 hours.

Oops.. I missed to note that BOM doesnt have an hotel in the transit area..so the 9W hotel question becomes irrelevant.. Also, unless u want to hv a quick trip to BOM ( for which u need a visa), why r u taking such a diversion from BKK to KTM ?? U hv award tickets or something , in which case why not take a visa..

I am realizing the visa issue.. too bad there is no transit visa (eg China) The reason for 9W is my friend issued the tickets, and just went on Xpedia, and grabbed the best one way fare... I don't think he realized the implications of a long layover in BOM.. I'm guessing lounges are useless as it's through the night.. Well I will chalk this up to an experience.. Maybe have a few extra drinks on the plane

Also as Saad mentioned, the lounges are open the whole time, so if u can atleast ask them to give u lounge access because of the long layover, u will have a much easier time since there r snacks to eat and u hv decent place to sit and spend time..

worse case senario, you can buy access to the lounge....you can easily kill some time there while waiting for your flight....
