JP - question on tier retention
This Dynamic Tier Review system that 9W runs on its JP program is a bit confusing.
, Need advice.
Facts: Am Gold on 9W, not striving to be Plat ! Last tier assessment date was 6 November 2009, and they sent me the standard renewal pack with upgrade vouchers, etc. As of today, I have qualified for renewal based on the 12-month criterion of 40 flight counts required.
Question: Does this mean that my revised tier renewal date is today, and I get a renewal pack with the vouchers, etc, again, now?

no, you will not get the renewal pack & vouchers again this year....
they basically have a 12 month, 18 month & 24 month criteria to qualify....so lets take this example:
you are currently gold having qualified in 2009....
now in order to requalify you need to have 40 tier points in 2010....
lets suppose you only got 35 tier points in 2010....now they will also look at how many tier points you had in the last 18 month or 24 months....if you had 54 tier points in the last 18 months or 68 tier points in the last 24 months then you will once again qualify for gold....
you have to meet one of the 3 criterias to requalify....doesn't matter if you have enough tier points to meet all 3, you will only get the vouchers & renewal pack once in the year....

OK, but that kinda beats the purpose of the 12, 18 and 24 months "dynamic" system, doesn't it? Particularly if I HAVE met the criteria (at least one of them, anyway)...my rotten luck, was thinking of adding on to the flight counts by using the upgrade vouchers...sigh...

no, i don't think it beats the purpose....for example, if you got 54 tier points in the second half of 2008 & then didn't take a single flight for all of 2009, you would still end up with gold status for 2010....i think its pretty cool....
with the amount i fly, even if i don't get on a single jet flight for all of 2010 & 2011, i still have enough tier points to have plat status for all of 2012....it a good way for jet to make sure people don't switch to other airlines once they have reached gold or plat status with them....

Exactly - the dynamic tier review comes with regard more to qualifying for elite tiers and moving up the ladder, so that
1) You are moving up dynamically, as and when you qualify
2) Your flights taken to qualify for Silver, still count cumulatively as you qualify for Gold, and then finally up to Platinum - this is great, because a bunch of longhauls in a premium cabin mean that within 6 months you can go from blue to plat (unlike other airlines where your tier points get set to 0 every time you move up a stage). Here they only get set to 0 with regard to retaining the tier you have attained.
3) The whole point of the multiple review criteria is actually to reward long time loyalty. Its a bit of retention discount. So for example, if there wasn't the multiple review criteria, one would have to earn 120 tier points over two years to keep qualifying for platinum.
However, at 108, after 1 year of being plat and earning 60 points, one has to only earn another 48 to hold on to platinum.
This accounts for slight up and downs in an individual's travel patterns without penalizing for not flying the exact same amount year to year.
It actually awards long term loyalty and is one of the few aspects of JP that works really well...

The more i learn of Dynamic Tier Retention, the more i like it. Now, if only Jet had got their fingers out of their arses intime and joined Oneworld or Star, they would have been a good option for me but unfortunately as it currently stands, i do not fly enough on Jet alone to make it worthwhile.

The last 6 months of flying is the DTR review requirement - so if you fly like a banshee during these 6 months, rest assured you'll qualify for Plat in a hurry...
