Avoid the Jet DXB/DEL Route

If you're considering connecting through Dubai (DXB) on your way to India, I'd first discourage that, but if you do, I'll try to save you the misery I experience with Jet Airways.

I'm an experienced global business traveler, but Jet Airways offered up my worst flight experience ever. I arrived in Dubai on a connecting UA flight. The connections desk couldn't get a Jet Airways gate attendant to answer the phone so sent me on to the gate. I arrived 40 minutes before boarding time and was told that they had already issued boarding passes to standby passengers and were now full. What airline takes standby passengers ahead of ticketed passengers that far ahead? Then, the airline refused to release my ticket so I could take a different airline, despite holding a refundable ticket. They kept me trapped in Dubai for an additional 24 hours (their next flight to Delhi). Jet Airways would have left me to sleep on the airport floor. It was United that at least provided me a hotel room in the airport and the use of the StarAlliance lounge.

To top it off, after the trip, they refused to issue mileage credit to my United Mileage Plus account, citing the class of the ticket (odd their reservations representative didn't mention that when issuing me a ticket and taking my UA number).

If there was ever a gang that couldn't shoot straight, this is it. This airline is apparently run by incompetents. Every employee I encountered (especially in Dubai) was bungling, indifferent and dishonest.

I'll never again try this airline.

I had the exact same experience though coming from BKK. Would not recommend Jet to anyone.

that's a shame... I have to ask, though: why did the OP buy a refundable ticket with 9W, only to connect to UA? If it is for alliance reasons, there are plenty of *A options to DEL. And even then, why not buy though UA instead of 9W? Then he wouldn't have had to wait for 9W to "release his ticket"

Plus, this:

Doesn't make sense with a refundable ticket.

I agree.

i fly 9w on the del-dxb route about 10-15 times a year....i also fly 9w about 3-4 times a year on the del-bkk route....have been doing this for the last 3 years & i have yet to have a single problem with them....

& i find it hard to believe the op did not get miles credit for a refundable ticket....

We need more information because what you have stated goes against everything that Jet Airways is known for.

were you:

1) late inbound on the United?
2) Did you have a boarding card issued on Jet sector?
3) Were you one through ticket?

and also from what i gather from your post:

1) it seems that Jet gave away seats 40 mins before departure, this is normal for most airlines around the world. Check in closes t-60mins and any spare seats go to standby pax.

2) A refundable ticket with Jet does not mean it is endorsable to other carriers just because your late. it probably said VALID 9W ONLY. This is normal unless you buy the full whack published fare as per IATA which is endorsable to any airline. You would have been better off asking for a refund rather than being endorsed over to another carrier.

but if it 1 through ticket, doesnt the airline try to hook you up with other airline, if your earlier flight is delayed?

The OP is right - what airline keeps a person waiting for 24 hrs for no fault of his. And the fact is that there are atleast 7-8 flights a day to Delhi from DXB

seems to me that the op had booked his tickets through united so it is the responsibility for that airline to make sure he gets on another flight to delhi, not jet....jet will only put you on their next flight out....or they can refund your money & you can buy another ticket with another carrier....

ground staff @ DXB

I wonder if it is a ground staff problem.A friend also encountered "bumbling and incompetent " personnel [who happened our own countrymen/women]when he missed a connection on Emirates.

Also possible...

However, note that it is not always them who are the incompetent ones.

One can use the example of *local* staff at BRU are the ones who often screw things up for Jet pax there! (and our native Jet staff can't do anything about it) :td:

(EWR is totally awesome! ^)

last time i flew through there a couple of months ago, they were behaving like they had never seen an upgrade voucher....they asked me all sorts of question like where i got the vouchers....i had a business ticket & my wife had a confirmed upgrade using the vouchers....i wasted half an hour during check-in while they sorted things out....

another time they couldn't find my reservation....

one more time they made me switch boarding cards....

it just goes on & on....

One incident: Those characters forced me to vacate my chosen and allocated seat in biz once - even had a BP for this seat!

I was completely pissed off - had a nice window seat on the 77w, then forced to sit in the back of biz, in a center section seat - not fun whatsoever!

Pisses me off big-time!

There are others, but do not want to provide the Jet lurkers with more identifying information! :p

(I hope you wrote in - this has to be stopped! One of the reasons why I fly on that unnamed airline in another thread! :D )
