Married Segments?

Does Iberia employ married segments for award availability?

On Iberia.com, I see MUC-MAD-JFK available in J. It's not visible on Ba.com or Alaska.com
XXX-MAD-JFK in J on my date isn't otherwise available. Nor is MAD-JFK standalone.

I'd like to book this itinerary but am leery of transferring in points if this is just phantom availability. Does anyone have experience or know how to validate?

Thanks/muchas gracias!

Yes, IB is well known for married segment availability. Means being MAD based sometimes you need to get on a train to VLC to fly back home to get availability.

Iberia.com is usually perfectly fine for rewards on its own metal.

And indeed with MUC-MAD-JFK competing against a direct LH offering, the chances are decent that IB does intend to offer cheap fares / award seats on that specific route.

But the inability to see it on ba.com does raise a red flag. However, BA won't ever show a mixed-class itinerary like Iberia will - perhaps the MUC-MAD is only available in Y?

It appears that it was truly a married segment. I tried several originating from a few other airports and the MAD-JFK leg wasn't available in J.

Unfortunately, due to IT issues I couldn't transfer Avios from BA to Iberia in a timely manner to get the seats. Appreciate the advice received here though and hopefully, the capacity will open back up again.
