A340-600 fleet withdrawal by end of 2020

Reuters reports the rescheduling of future A320neos and A350s but perhaps more notably the accelerated withdrawal of Iberia’s A340 fleet.

Iberia has rescheduled deliveries of Airbus A350 and A320neo aircraft, and plans to withdraw 14 older Airbus A340 jets from its fleet, as the coronavirus crisis curbs air travel.

The airline had planned to get rid of the 14 A340 jets over several years but will now do it by the end of the year, a company spokeswoman said on Thursday, confirming a report from local newspaper Cinco Dias.

A340 retirement

Does anyone know when the A340 planes are due to retire?

My outbound flight has been swapped to an A350 I’m October but I’m supposed to be flying from Bogota to Madrid on Sunday 18th October on the A340.

doing a quick search, can see that the flight isn’t for sale any longer, but the flight is still scheduled. When I called, I was told that the plane is full

I’m guessing I’ll have to wait to hear, but it’s been like this for three weeks

The plan: in August no more 340 will be flying passenger flights.

What a shame. Only time I've ever flown the A340 was with Lufthansa many years ago (346, MUC-DEL) and thought my next best chance to catch it would be with Iberia

It would have to be -300s. They need to the 200s for the range. Without them they'd have to use 350s only on some routes once things come back.

I might be wrong, but I think the MRTT only contemplates the 200 variant.
