Unifying different tickets, is that possible?

My brother in law will fly NRT - MAD on Iberia and I was thinking of using my avios (or paying, anything is ok) to add a morning ALC - MAD flight before the MAD - NRT flight. Is there a way of "unify" these separated tickets so if anything happens in the ALC - MAD flight before the MAD - NRT then he gets some kind of compensation?

Gracias!

No. You cannot combine flights bought separately.

I recommend flying into Madrid the night before, to be sure of making the connection. It would be quite risky to lose a MAD-NRT ticket over a delayed flight from ALC.

What about baggage? Would Iberia at least check his baggage to NRT in ALC?

Thank you for the fast response. I guess I will put him on an AVE to Madrid, and in case there is a problem I will just drive him there at 160km/h...

Baggage would need to be picked up in MAD.

If you don't exceed 150kmh it will just be a 50eur fine.
