Award cancellation fee

Award cancellation fee
I booked 2 award tickets online. Misspelled my wife's first name by one letter.
Iberia said they couldn't fix it and that I had to cancel both tickets and pay 25 euros each, even though I called 5 minutes after making the mistake. Said 24 hour rule doesn't apply to award tickets. Couldn't speak to a supervisor as they only spoke Spanish.
Now I'm out 50 euros. Did they correctly apply the rules?
ETA: I called back and asked why they had to cancel both, and then they admitted only one needed to be cancelled. So only 25 euros . But I thought the 24 hour rule applied to award tickets.
